“Light of the World” – τὸ φῶς τοῦ κόσμου
To Phos Tou Kosmou
According to the Oxford Languages, the definition of darkness is “the partial or total absence of light.” Another description is: “wickedness or evil”.
Mirriam-Webster’s definition of light states that it is: ” something that makes vision possible”.
John 8:12 “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 12:46 “I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.”
“whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life”
As we watch the world get darker and darker, what hope we have in Jesus! He came so that we would not be swallowed up in darkness, but so that we could be set free from it! We don’t have to live in sin and blindness, but we can follow Jesus and live in the light. What’s more is that we are transformed into the light of the world as well, welcoming others to join us as we walk with Jesus.
Matthew 5:14-16 “14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Isn’t it amazing that Jesus now calls us the light of the world!? It’s nothing that we have done, but it’s Jesus shining through us. What an amazing honor!
1 John 1:5 “This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.”
God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all.
Jesus is the Light of the World. He has given us the amazing privilege of being the Light of the World now through Him. Yes, the world is getting darker and darker. There is good news though! The solution to darkness is light. Light dispels darkness.
John 1:4-5 “In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
Shine bright my friends. ❤
